Many academicians have tried to define education in the past. Education can be defined as the act or experience that has a decisive impact on the mind, physical ability and character of a person. Technically speaking, it is the process by which society intentionally transmits its knowledge, values and skills to the generations to come.

The importance of education has long been established. It does not mean reading books and cramming them up, but it is the opening of the mind and the enhanced ability to follow something that has been studied. Basically, it enlightens the minds.

It is not necessary that an individual seeks education only to get a degree and gain employment. It is equally important for the overall development of the personality as well. With the light of edification, one can spread knowledge all around them, get rid of useless beliefs, and untangle themselves from the clutches of ignorance and so on.

If we talk about the proper format of learning, one must consider the system generally followed all over the world. In various institutions, teachers impart education to students and shed light over a variety of subjects. It can be English, mathematics, science, environmental science, humanities, reading, writing, and so on. The schooling process begins as early. During the formative years, students have imparted knowledge which they can easily grasp and understand. Nowadays’ the teaching pattern has undergone a lot of transformation. Students instead of being taught on blackboards are being taught using electronic devices such as power point. This has made education fun for the young kids who have just started schooling. Utmost care is also taken that the young kids are offered both formal and structured education. This is the time when the brains of young kids are developing and if they are taught in a clear and precise way, they end up gaining more from it.

After one completes the primary stage of schooling, the secondary begins. This is the age when the kids grow up and reach the age of adolescence. They are at a highly impressionable age so great care should be taken by the teachers while imparting knowledge to them. Since teachers are the role models of the children at every age, they generally follow everything said and done by them.

Next stage is the stage of higher edification. The students become adults and attain knowledge in the subject areas of their choice instead of studying everything. The change in stages reflects clearly. From the formal and comprehensive stage, one moves towards the unstructured and slightly informal education. There are a plethora of courses from which a student can choose from. At this stage, students can also decide whether they wish to study mainstream subjects or gain a vocational education. Once the course is finished, the students are awarded degrees, diplomas and certificates. Learning at this stage determines the career of the students. Hence a great weight is given to this stage which is also referred to as tertiary education. After completion of the course, trained, the qualified and skilled workforce is ready to gain suitable employment thereby contributing to the national economy.

Adult education is another form that is imparted to people who are adults but somehow were unable to complete their studies. Such people can be taught in a variety of ways like the internet, self-directed learning, e-learning or formal learning. Similarly, alternative education is another concept where nontraditional teaching is imparted. People of any age group can attain this and it can also for people with special needs. Overall, edification is always beneficial in whichever form it is imparted.
