Describe an experience you had as a member of a team
- What was it?
- Who were the members of the team?
- What role did you play in this team?
- And explain how you achieved your goal?
Well I have worked as a part of a team several times and i really enjoy being a team member as its quite interactive and enjoyable. One gets to learn many good things such as teamwork, cooperation and can exchange ideas with others. Here I will talk about a time when I became a member of a camping team.
When I was living in Dehradun during my nursing course, I joined a gym there as I used to be free in the evenings. The gym owners used to take two teams for Mussoorie trek from Dehradun once every month which included a night out and the team itself had to carry all the equipment, food and other necessary items on foot to the camping location uphill in the woods. Teams were not allowed to buy anything except water. The team which reached at the camping spot first had to immediately start erecting their tents and the team which reached and settled first at the destination used to get a reward of 11,000 rs. After a month of my joining, the gym owner put my name in one of the teams and I agreed to join. Finally, the day arrived and we all left for the trek and camping competition began at 4 pm in the evening. Weather was quite pleasant as it was the month of October. I was supposed to carry my belongings as well as all the food items for my team for dinner and next morning’s breakfast. There were 3 more members in my team who were carrying the tent equipment and other things of need such as blankets, bed sheets, mattresses for us 4.
People hardly walk this trail anymore, apart from the occasional nature lovers or trekkers like us who enjoy the perfect solitude. The trail starts from the Old Rajpur Road, and ends at the Old Toll Road. The hike up is quite steep and about 8km long; it took us exactly two hours to reach Mussoorie but the opponent team was left behind and it reached half an hour later. By the time they reached us, it was already 6:30 and we had already erected our tents and were spreading the mattresses and bed sheets. They were startled to see us working so quickly and coordinated. Our trainers were also amazed and applauded us for our agility, spontaneity and teamwork. At around 7 pm, everybody settled down and we lit a bonfire and prepared the tea with some mouth-watering but healthy snacks. Our gym owner gave us the reward and we were told that we did not have to do anything for preparing dinner! We four were over the moon and our trainers, owner and the other team prepared a lip-smacking dinner, however we volunteered to serve and enjoyed a lot after dinner by dancing, singing and conversing near the cosy bonfire. At around 12:30 midnight we all went to sleep and next day in the morning we got up at 7 am and got fresh. We prepared breakfast and by 12 pm we came downhill back to Dehradun from where we drove back to the gym. It was an amazing and the most adventurous experience that I enjoyed as a member of the team till date.
