Your local council is considering closing a sports and leisure centre that it runs, in order to save money.
Write a letter to the local council. In your letter
- Give details of how you and your friends or family use the centre
- Explain why the sports and leisure centre is important for the local community
- Describe the possible effects on local people if the centre closes
Dear Sir,
My name is XYZ and I am writing to express strong disagreement on behalf of the residents of the town regarding the announced plans to close the Recreation Centre of Woodstock, Ontario.
This Centre plays a significant role in the life of my family. My parents visit the swimming pool of the Centre. My sister is an active member of the local theatre as well as she takes dance classes with her friends, and my grandfather regularly wins the chess championship of the town there. All these facilities are provided at nominal prices to the community by the Centre.
It’s only because of this local sports and leisure centre that children of our town are able to develop themselves both physically and mentally. There are many courts in the centre such as football and badminton courts where children as well as adults practice a range of sports activities. Adults have an opportunity to be healthy and retired persons can spend their leisure time together.
Everyone in the town is disheartened upon hearing about your plans for the centre’s demolition. Life of the local residents will be affected badly as decreased number of sports opportunities will increase the load on the healthcare system. The absence of leisure activities may lead to boredom among youngsters. Elderly people would become less happy and would be forced to spend their time watching TV indoors which will affect their well-being.
Hence I hope that the local council will consider my thoughts and will revise the idea of closing the Recreational Centre.
Yours Faithfully,
XYZ
