Young people are much more aware of and concerned about issues like the environment, poverty, and animal welfare than previous generations. What is your opinion?

The burning issues such as impoverishment, environmental and animal protection are addressed more these days as compared to the past. And, it is asserted that youngsters take more interest in such undertakings than the older generation. However, I do not agree with the statement due to notable reasons discussed in this essay.

The point of the younger generation’s engagement in welfare activities is right to some extent due to several reasons. First comes education, presently, authorities have included the academic content related to these issues to a large extent at the primary and secondary level. Besides this, young adults have endless sources of information nowadays, particularly digital media. Therefore, they know the consequences of these issues if they remain ignored.  On the other hand, older people had very limited sources of knowledge in their times, thus they were less active in social and animal well-being.

However, in my opinion, it is not a matter of young and elder people, rather it is a matter of awareness and personal interests of the people which make them concerned about the environmental degradation and the plight of poor people and stray animals. To quote an instance, a Padma Shree awardee, Jadav Payeng, an environmental activist, regarded as the forest man of India is around 60 years old. He has grown a forest reserve in Assam. So here, this old-generation man was moved by the passion to do this remarkable job! And there are many similar examples of older people on this planet who are philanthropists or serving the nation in one or another way.

In conclusion, I believe that undoubtedly, youngsters are tremendously engaging in animal and social welfare due to the awareness spread on social media. Nevertheless, it is the empathy and compassion that incite people from within, whether they are young or old, to reach out to the needy ones and save mother nature.
