I am very fond of watching movies in my spare time and I usually watch 3-4 movies in a week. The last movie that made me think a lot I watched is “Article 15” on Netflix, an online movies application. Due to the ongoing Covid19 pandemic, the idea of watching movies in a movie theatre is long gone. However, today is the world where your home is your castle. So, on my last weekend, I decided to watch a movie named “Article 15“upon my friends’ insistence. It is a movie released in 2019 based on multiple true-life events starring Ayushman Khurana and it made me think a lot. The film is about Article 15 of the Constitution of India, which prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. The main plot of the film follows a police investigation that begins when three teenage girls go missing from a small village.
Article 15 is a crime thriller. It is thought-provoking and brings into light the prevalent burning social issues in many parts of the country. Moreover, the dialogues left an everlasting impact on me and made me think critically on social bias. The film’s storyline mingled with powerful and touching moments and gave me goose-bumps many times. But truly, the performance of versatile and veteran actors left me spellbound.
It’s shocking to see such incidents happening in recent times when India is progressing. The movie Article15 is such an eye-opener. It shows a real and bitter truth of our rural India. We are living in the modern era and the constitution gives us multiple rights but there are many places in India where basic freedom isn’t allowed or one will be hanged to death if he/she dares to raise voice. In the end, the movie made me think that this is the kind of cinema the country needs and such awareness-causing movies must be watched by every Indian.
