I am very fond of travelling and I plan long and short journeys every now and then. It helps me feel rejuvenated and gives me the energy to get back to work with enthusiasm. Usually my journeys go as planned but here I will talk about a time when one of my important journeys got delayed.
Last year in the month of December, we had to attend a destination wedding of my maternal cousin sister in Mussoorie. The groom’ family was from Canada but my maternal uncle and aunt are based in Dehradun since my uncle is in Indian army and got transferred there 15 years ago and settled there ever since. They planned a dreamy destination marriage at The Savoy Hotel in Mussoorie. It was a private affair of over 80 people and we were supposed to attend ladies’ sangeet, wedding which were organised in The Savoy and reception whose venue was The JW Marriott Mussoorie.
As my boss granted me a 3-day holiday, we left for Mussoorie a day before the wedding, on the day of Ladies’ Sangeet. The timings for the function were 6pm -10:30 pm, so me and my parents started driving towards our destination at 10am in the morning. It was a 7-hour journey so we thought we could easily make it on time. In around 4 hours we reached Paonta Sahib which was half way from the wedding place. Unfortunately, our car’s tyre got punctured and there was no service station around. Finally, we were rescued by a roadside restaurant owner. He called a mechanic who came and fixed our car and by that time it was 4pm. Then we started moving again and finally in another 1.5 hours we were on the road to Mussoorie. It was already around 5:30 pm and although we were only 30 kms from the hotel, it was a hilly area and my father said that it would take 2 more hours to reach. All of a sudden the weather changed and it became extremely foggy. We were very very disappointed and were getting so many phone calls from our relatives. We finally explained to them the whole situation and regretted that we should have started a little early from home. We were driving at a speed of 20-30 kms per hour. When we reached the hotel it was 9 pm already. We were extremely tired so we decided just to rest in our suite to gather our energy for the next day and so we missed the DJ party.
Our relatives came to meet us in our room after we had just finished our dinner and were about to go to sleep. We apologised to them and they understood everything. However, we had a lot of fun at the wedding as well as reception. So this was a time when an important journey got delayed.
