Nowadays, more people get married to someone of a different culture than they ever did. Why is this happening? Discuss the benefits and demerits of this trend.

In the earlier times, mortals in many nations used to only get married to people from their own culture but nowadays the trend has changed and we usually see people tying the knot with individuals from different cultures, religions or backgrounds. The reasons behind this growing trend will be discussed in the upcoming stanzas along with its pros and cons.

To begin with, an intercultural marriage is a union of two people involving numerous cultures and backgrounds. It is mainly the impact of globalisation that an increasing number of people nowadays opt for interracial marriages as people communicate to other people belonging to different cultures over social media and develop liking and attraction for each other. Moreover, masses come across diverse human beings when they travel internationally for leisure or work and many times end up developing feelings for someone who does not share the same culture or ethnicity. Also, it’s a popular saying that ‘opposites attract’ and it becomes true and results in intercultural marriage for some.

This trend had both merits and demerits to it. On the brighter side, an intercultural couple has an option to settle in two countries. People get to enjoy a variety of festivals and relish distinct food items. Moreover, the children born to such couples look universal and can adapt to any culture. The minds of such families are open and they also have a chance to learn variety of languages. On the darker side, interracial marriages tend to experience high level of discrimination from family and friends. Some people are unable to adjust over time in a family or partner from different culture and end up getting divorced.

To sum up, I believe that choosing a life partner is one’s free will. People can choose their better half independently. Getting separated or divorced has nothing to do with a different culture of one’s life partner, it’s just destiny as many times we see married couples sharing a common culture getting separated.
