There will be a traditional celebration in your country and you want to invite your friend from an English-speaking country. Write him/her a letter and

  • invite your friend,
  • explain what happens at the party,
  • describe the tradition and why it’s important in your country,
  • say why it is important for your friend to be there.

Hi ABC,

I am doing fine and hope the same for you. I am writing to cordially invite you over a famous public event in my country. I was wondering if you’d fancy coming over to one of my favourite traditional Indian celebrations which would be a cherry on the cake as I have been longing to see you.

On the 25th of October, Dussehra will be celebrated in my country. As you are fascinated about Hindu culture and mythology, I insist that you must come to see this celebration taking place with great pomp and show. This day marks the victory of truth over evil. It starts as soon as the sun sets and effigies of Ravana, Meghdoot and Kumbhkaran are burnt which are filled with crackers and other fireworks after the famous theatrical performance called ‘Ram leela’ which is a drama that explains the legends of ‘Ramayana’.  The Dussehra celebration in my city is quite popular all over the country.

More than 70% of the population of my country is Hindu and they celebrate this enthusiastically. People of all religions await this festival eagerly. Huge processions are organised a few days before this event. You must come over to see the glorious festivity yourself. Also, we will go to Haridwar after this celebration ends so that we can visit many Hindu temples located on the bank of Holy river Ganga and will also go shopping to Dehradun on our way back. I would suggest you come for at least a fortnight so that we can make the most of your visit.

I hope you will come over as this celebration won’t be the same without you. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours friendly,

XYZ
