Open-plan offices offer a better working environment for staff than a normal office. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Open floor office is the old school trend which is still not out of style. This has taken up a new avatar with the latest interior designs and décor. However, the offices with chambers have the edge over the open setups. Therefore, I do not agree with the statement that open-plan offices are better workplaces than normal ones.
Open floor offices are usually preferred because these are cost-effective. There is no need for partition walls and separate electrical infrastructure as that of bricks and mortar. However, these offices are no way better than the properly built office cubicles in terms of the working atmosphere due to never-ending distractions in the open setup. Moreover, nowadays everyone seeks personal space but here employees do not get any privacy and security because of being surrounded all-time which leads to lesser job satisfaction. Therefore, all these factors are a big hindrance in the concentration which ultimately hampers the productivity of workers.
Furthermore, workers have to compromise with things such as the amount of light and the temperature of the air-conditioned even if their bodies have different requirements. The biggest drawback associated with the desk-to-desk type of office is the spread of communicable diseases due to no barrier between two employees’ working areas. For instance, illness caused by Covid-19 is quite contagious so people have insecurities related to open working setup.
To core out, I strongly believe that offices with separated cabins provide a better working environment than open office setups which eventually reflects on the performance of the office staff.
