IELTS Speaking Part 2: IELTS Cue Card

Describe a famous athlete you know
You should say:
Who he/she is
How do you know him/her
What has he/she achieved
And explain why he/she is famous

–  Well, there are a couple of athletes whom I really admire because of their sports skills.

– Here I would like to talk about one of my favourite sportswomen named PV Sindhu.

– She is an international badminton player of my country.

– She was born on the 5th of July 1995 in Hyderabad.

– Both her parents have been national-level volleyball players.

– She is tall and very agile which gives her an edge over the other players.

– She picked up the sport at very early age and won several competitions at the junior level.

– I have started following her game since the Olympics 2016.

– Now, I am a diehard fan of PV Sindhu and hardly miss her game.

– If I talk about her career achievements that are countless as she has won a number of international tournaments.

– Winning a silver medal in the Olympics 2016 was the major breakthrough in her career because she defeated all the top-ranked players to enter the final.

– In 2018, she won gold in the Commonwealth Games.

– Recently, she won her 2nd Olympic medal and becomes the second Indian athlete who has done this.

– She is the first Indian badminton player to become the Badminton World Champion.

– Our government also honoured her achievements with sports awards such as Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna and many more.

– I really like her game especially the way she covers the whole court.

– She is really famous for her powerful smash.

In the latest years, she has totally dominated this sport which has made her popular all over the world.

– Moreover, in a country like India where girls are not supposed to be good for sports, winning so many medals is marvellous.

– Now she is an idol for many young girls in India who are following in her footsteps.

– Apart from sports, she is a kind-hearted person and has contributed to several social welfare programs.

– Recently, she donated 10 lakhs in the fight against Covid-19.

– I must say she is a true legend of the game as she always congratulates her opponents with a smile even after losing the game.

– I’m hopeful that in future she will keep making our country proud with her game.
