Making promises is a big thing as it reflects our intentions towards someone. Generally, promises are made to others for their happiness. But we tend to ignore the most important part of our lives which is our own selves. We make promises to ourselves but seldom deliver the same.
Today, I would like to talk about the time when I made a promise to myself. Two years back, I was facing health issues due to my overweight. I noticed the drop in my metabolism leading to intense problem of being lethargic all the time. I understood that the main reason behind this is my rigorous daily routine and unhealthy eating habits.
Initially, I started doing some exercises and joined aerobics classes. I also took help from my mother as she used to make healthy food items for me. However, after few weeks, I started to skip the aerobics classes and became lenient towards my diet too. This caused me to gain even more weight and I was shocked to notice that all my favourite clothes stop to fit me and I weighed almost double than my required weight.
That day, I promised myself that I shall take my health care regime very sincerely without any excuses. I enrolled myself for the gym and even, took the responsibility of preparing my meals by my own. This made me develop the habit of mindful eating and for the first time, I became disciplined in my life.
After three to four months, I started getting compliments from my near and dear ones and people started asking me for the tips to get healthy. I became confident and contented more than ever before. At that time, I understood the essence of making the promises and living up to it. I made this promise because I realised that one’s own responsibility is in one’s own hands. I realised if I cannot do something for myself, I can never be able to deliver anything to the society.
Though, keeping up with the promise was not an easy task as it involved some setbacks, breaks and days where I felt like giving up.
But I am glad that I didn’t give up and put in all the efforts to live up to my promise.
