Describe something important that has been kept in your family for a long time.

You should say:

  • What is it?

  •  When your family had it?

  • How your family got it?

  • And explain why it is important for your family

Well, we have numerous things which belong to our ancestors and have been preserved by my family for a long. We have a wooden sofa set, brass utensils and other such things which are hard to find today in such quality. But I would like to talk about an important thing which has been kept in the family for a long time. This is the unique pearl necklace set which originally belonged to my great grandmother. I came to know that my great grandmother was a great admirer of the jewellery and had different pieces of ornaments. This set contains the neckpiece, matching earrings and anklets. It was gifted by my great grandfather to his wife when my grandfather was born. It is made up of natural pearls which are off white in colour. It is the ornament rarer than the diamonds and has no replacement value. These days my mother has this set and often wear it on the family occasions such as weddings and anniversaries.

She always receives compliments whenever she wears this set of jewellery. Also, it goes which all kinds of attires whether western or traditional. My grandmother gifted it to my mother when I was born. It has been in our family for generations and holds emotional values for the family. It has been kept in the bank locker to keep it safe. It is very precious for us because these pearls are excessively expensive. It is also nearly impossible to find such pearls because of the degradation of natural resources due to rising pollution levels. Moreover, the pearls used in jewellery these days are mostly man-made and have lost their values as the designs can be imitated easily. However, our inherited ornamental set has a distinctive design that cannot be understood by present jewellers. So, this is a priceless commodity which belongs to my family for a long and will be inherited even to the next generations to come.
