People, who go to live in other countries should follow the customs and traditions of the new country, to what extent do you agree or disagree?

With the increasing trend of immigration to other countries, the adoption of a new country’s culture and traditions has always been a matter of discussion among many people. A school of thought asserts that one should accept and embrace the culture and traditions of new land. I completely agree with the statement and this essay examines the fact closely.

I believe people should not be reluctant in accepting a new culture as it broadens one’s horizons and stimulates understanding between the folks of two countries. They come to know each other’s way of thinking and living. Along with this, gradually it becomes easier for the immigrants to understand the language of the natives and get along with them. Moreover, willingness to mingle with the culture and society of natives expands one’s network quickly which ultimately provides the person with more employment options.

On the other hand, it is opinionated that following the trends of other countries makes one forget his cultural roots. However, the truth of the matter is that adopting the customs and traditions of the host country paves the way to harmonious and peaceful relations between the two countrymen. For instance, foreigners who visit India’s Golden temple or other religious places, follow the ritual of taking off footwear and covering their heads which is always appreciated by the localities. As a result, it increases love and respect for one another.

In conclusion, I reckon that social integration on the foreign land bridges the gap between natives and non-natives in every aspect. Also, it is rightly said, ‘when in Rome, do as the Romans do!’ Therefore, immigrants should always try to accept the customs and rituals of the inhabitants.
