Some people believe that the government should take care of old people and provide financial support after they retire. Others say individuals should save during their working years to fund their own retirement.

Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Old people are like trees who protect us from the atrocities of life. They are the foundation and backbone of the family. Many folks reckon that the governing bodies should assist the elderly as well as support them financially after retirement whereas others ponder that people should make savings while working to survive post-retirement. This essay will shed light on both the above-given views and will arrive at a meaningful conclusion at the end.

On the one hand, the regime levies different forms of tax from its working population to benefit the needy sections of society such as the greying citizenry. It is the government’s responsibility to support the old aged after retirement or during their 60s as they then are then unable to work. Moreover, during their youthful days, they contributed for the prosperity of the country so in their golden years they deserve back some assistance from the government to live comfortably with dignity which adds to the goodwill of the nation.  A satisfactory amount of monthly allowance must be given so that they can meet basic needs like food, medicine and other expenses. Rebates must be given to the senior citizens for travelling via public transport, undergoing any medical treatment, as well as subsidised ration and electricity units costs, must be provided to them.

On the other hand, some are of the view that people should begin making savings for their golden years themselves and not rely on anyone for support. Masses must take out a certain proportion of their earnings every month and put into a separate bank account, fixed deposit or any other form of investment which they must only begin using once they grow old to fulfil their basic necessities and other miscellaneous expenses. This will create a lesser burden on the government of that country and federal money can be used for other productive purposes such as improvement of infrastructure or helping the poor, orphans and disabled. For instance, all the working citizens whether who work at government posts and also some who work for private firms get provident fund when they retire which is a handsome amount that can be utilized by them in their life after work.

To sum up, in my opinion, it’s the duty of the government to support the old aged as it’s morally and compassionately a discrete service. People must also save an amount for bearing any additional expenses in old age such as hiring domestic help or any pricey medical treatment if incase their children do not look after them.
