The diagram below shows a process for turning dirty water into clean water.

The diagram illustrates the process used for cleansing impure water into potable water.

As can be seen from the diagram, there are five main stages in which unclear water is transformed into clean water. First of all, dirty and muddy water is collected and spilled into a bottle which does not have a bottom and is put in an inverse position onto a glass. Then, the dirty and muddy water goes through a filter paper which is the first permeable strainer holding back the unwanted substances. Subsequently, this liquid continues to pass through a second deterrence made by gravel (small pebbles). Thereafter, the third sieve containing fine sand lets the water go down with the same clarifying function. Next, the liquid is absorbed by a final barrier which is a cotton wool gauze. Consequently, the clean water drop by drop goes into the glass put under the cleansing bottle.

Overall, the diagram shows a single way to obtain fresh water purified by using basic substances.
