You live in a room in college which you share with another student

by Ielts Team

You live in a room in college which you share with another student. You find it very difficult to work there because he or she always has friends visiting. They have parties in the room and sometimes borrow your things without asking you.

Write a letter to the Accommodation Officer at the college and ask for a new room next term. You would prefer a single room. Explain your reasons.

Respected Sir,

My name is XYZ and I am living in one of the college’s halls of residence on a twin share basis. I am writing to bring in your notice some problems that I have been facing recently with my roommate.

I am in the second year of my bachelor’s program and as my final exams are approaching, I have to study a lot. However, my roommate likes to watch television till late night and keeps the volume high. This disturbs me and hence I cannot prepare well for my exams. I have time and again asked him to reduce the volume, but he doesn’t listen.

My roommate also doesn’t like to clean the room. I have prepared a cleaning routine, but he does not stick to it. Also, he invites his friends for parties and sleepovers which is pretty hassling for me and I am unable to study because of the nuisance they create. He uses his mobile phone till midnight and converses loudly with his friends which disturbs my sleep and makes it impossible for me to concentrate on my studies the next day. Also, he borrows my belongings like my calculator, shampoo and grocery items without asking me which is very annoying.

I really want to move out of this room as soon as possible. I believe that it will benefit both parties. I am looking for a single room for the future with kitchen and bathroom facilities. It would be really helpful if you could arrange one near my campus.

I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

XYZ
