Information Centre. The information given to you was wrong. Write a letter to the

  • What was the information required?
  • How was the wrong information provided?
  • What problems did you have because of this?

Dear Sir,

My name is XYZ and I recently visited Dubai for the purpose of tourism. I am writing to draw your attention towards the misinformation that was provided to me by the Tourist Information Centre at Dubai International Airport.

As it was my first ever visit to Dubai, upon arrival I met the executive on duty at the Tourist information centre named Rashid Sheikh to know about the dos and don’ts and all other necessary information to tour Dubai by not offending any laws. When I went there, he wasn’t available for around 15 minutes and finally then he arrived at the desk. Upon asking, he did not tell me much about the laws and rules to be followed by the international tourists and he was constantly busy on his phone. I asked him if he could at least give me a booklet regarding the rules and regulations in brief for tourists, but he said that they were out of stock. He just told me basics like not to drink at public places like metro stations, bus stops and not to wear extremely revealing clothes in public.

So I just took care of the couple of things he told me about. After my 10 days trip was over, I went to the Airport to board my flight back to India. I was shocked when I was stopped by the immigration upon showing my documents and they disclosed that I had to pay a penalty of 1700 dirhams as I had breached some laws. Actually I was not told by the executive that I was not supposed to cross the road on foot until the green signal appears on the pedestrian traffic signal for which a fine of 400 dirhams is charged, and I unknowingly crossed the lights thrice during my stay.  Also he did not tell me that if my MetroCard would be left with less than 10 dirhams, i would be fined 500 dirhams. So the penalty sum totalled to be 1700 dirhams.

I had to pay the fine in order to be allowed to board my flight back to my country but it was not my fault.  I was unable to tell the immigration personnel about the negligence of the officer at the Tourist information centre as my flight was about to take off. I request you to kindly give strict instructions to the above mentioned officer to do his duty wholeheartedly because it was his careless attitude due to which I had to pay the price. You must give him a strict warning to not to have such callous attitude while on duty.

I hope you will act upon my advice so that no one else may suffer like me.

Thank You,

XYZ
