I know many elderly people in my family and also many of the senior citizens who live in our locality. I am very fond of many old people but here I will talk about an old person whom I respect and know quite intimately.
It is none other than my father. His name is Sadhu Singh Deol. He is 69 years old and is a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police. The meaning of his name ‘Sadhu’ is a holy man who has a good heart and it indeed suits him. His juniors as well as seniors from his department regard him for his truthfulness and kindheartedness. As he has ample of free time now after retirement, he volunteered to become the head of our community’s Gurudwara and has been serving there for free since 2012. During the month of April, he donated a ration worth Rs 1.50 lakhs among the needy as many people in our area faced financial problems due to the lockdown which was imposed because of Covid-19. He particularly took care of the needs of the migrants residing and passing by our area and provided them food, tea, biscuits as well as ration. I actually cannot keep a count of the times he has extended help to the needy during floods and several other problematic situations. He is also very responsible and concerned towards his sisters and all other relatives and he cares and adores them all from the bottom of his heart.
He helps the seeking selflessly and this is why everyone in our locality respects and adores him. He is a kind of person who believes in thoughts like ‘do good and forget’. He has also donated some of his ancestral farmland to the Gurdwara in his native village named Daango. He says he gets peace and satisfaction from within while he serves and supports others. People from our society come to him for his guidance and suggestions and he welcomes all with open arms. So this is the aged person whom I know who loves helping others in his free time and earns a lot of respect because of his saintly nature.
