IELTS Speaking Part 2: IELTS Cue Card
Describe a plan in your life that is not related to work or study
– What it is about
– Why you made this plan
– What you need to do first
– And explain how you would feel if it is successful
Well, being an extremely organised person, I always make plans for myself.
Making plans helps me perform well and prevents the added tension of messing things up.
Some are for my daily routine, some for monthly goals and some for my career goals.
Having said that, I do have plans which are neither related with my study nor my work.
One such plan is to visit my sister in Denver, which is a city in the USA.
This will help me in getting a break from my monotonous routine and freshen me up.
Also, I’ll get to see my sister whom I love.
She had told me some excellent things about the place and the activities we can do there.
We can do river rafting in the Colorado River, skiing in the snow and go shopping to some of the amazing markets nearby.
Further, my sister has her graduation exams in February this year and needs help with the preparations too.
So, I do have a month-long trip planned to her place.
However, to implement this plan, I’ll need to sort out my visa issues first.
As I have never been abroad, I am pretty amateur in that context and need to get acquainted with a lot of stuff.
Moreover, I need to go shopping for some Indian food items for my sister as she really misses them there.
Also, she needs some Indian dresses as well, so I am planning a trip to Jaipur to get some ethnic wear and authentic gifts for her.
So, I am very elated to visit her as we haven’t met each other for the past 3 years now.
Plus, she has promised to take me Scuba Diving in Hawaii, which I am eagerly waiting for, being a big marine fan.
Finally, I can’t wait to meet my sister and have a great time with her reminiscing about our good old days.
IELTS Speaking Part 3 :
Follow-up questions of Describe a plan in your life that is not related to work or study
1. Do you think it is important for a person to have a career plan?
Definitely. I think having a predetermined career plan always makes the task easier. It helps us to decide on the appropriate path which would eventually help in achieving our goals. For instance, having a clear plan regarding our education can determine a clear career path for us.
2. How do most people plan their future education and their future career?
Majority of people consult their parents, family members and professors for help in deciding their future education and career. Nowadays, counselling and career tests are also instrumental in the decision-making process.
3. Do you think it’s important to include the factor of one’s salary in a career plan?
Absolutely. Monetary aspects play a very important role in a career plan. After all, we build a career to lead a better life and improve our lifestyle, which in turn depends on money. So, I think it’s not advisable to go for a career which doesn’t pay well.
4. Do you think planning is important or is it a waste of time?
Oh, it’s very much important. Actually, waste of time happens when we don’t plan things and devote our time to unnecessary things while neglecting the necessary ones. So, planning actually increases our productivity and saves time.
5. What kinds of personal plans should people make for themselves?
It depends on the priorities. Some people prioritise money, some education and some family. So, people should make plans keeping past experiences and the present as well as future circumstances in mind.
6. In general, how do people make plans?
Some people tend to maintain a diary in which they make notes regarding their plans for the day or the month. These days, they also use the note app in the smartphone for the purpose.
7. For a person with children, what influence does this have on their personal plans for the future?
Oh, I assume a great one. As once a child is born, it leads to alterations in every aspect of your life. The priorities change with the child taking the centre stage as they are dependent and command more attention from their parents. People think of starting to save money for the future education and career of their children.
8. Should parents set goals for children?
Um, yes. Nobody knows the children better than their parents. Plus, parents are the only people who will never think ill or give flawed advice to their children. Targets given by parents can prove to be a great motivation factor for children.
9. When do young children start to set goals for themselves?
Um, once they reach the middle or high school level, they start making different study goals for themselves. Later on, they make goals for their college and further education, of course in consultation with their parents and keeping the finances in mind. When they start earning, they plan more independently as they gain maturity by then.
