Since childhood, I have been a very big fan of Punjabi music and my current favourite singer is Ranjit Bawa. He has a melodious voice and sings live very well without using any autotones. He is a good entertainer and gives spellbounding performances. He is not only a singer but is also a lyricist. He writes many songs based on the current issues of our country and most of his songs have deep meanings. Here I will talk about one of his performances that I enjoyed.
Around 8 months ago, I came to know from my friends, who are also big fans of Ranjit Bawa that he was coming to Ludhiana for a concert. Although I had watched him perform live at one of my cousin’s weddings a year ago, I did not want to miss the opportunity of watching him perform live again. So, we all were very excited. Nowadays, tickets are only sold online and as Ranjit Bawa has become very popular in the country, his concert tickets get sold out within minutes.
We were worried that we might miss it and so the day the tickets were to become available, all of us friends decided to get together at my house as I have the fastest internet. The tickets became available at 12 PM and by 12:05 we had booked them and got the confirmation.
That’s when we felt that we were really going to attend his concert as I was worried that we might not make it to the concert due to one reason or the other. We then just had to wait for the day of the concert and time couldn’t have passed more slowly. Finally, the day arrived and the performance began at 7.00 PM. The venue was PAU (Punjab Agricultural University). However, before Ranjit Bawa, two other Punjabi singers performed live and they were also really good, but we all desperately wanted to hear Ranjit Bawa who was to sing live next and end the concert.
Finally, he came out on the stage at around 8:30 PM and we all just went crazy. I think for about 5 minutes the crowd kept chanting Ranjit Bawa’s name. But as soon as he started singing, there was a pin drop silence all around. His voice in person was even better than his videos online.
Another thing I noticed was that even though it was winter, he was sweating so much. It made me appreciate him even more. He danced while he sang and still did not breathe heavily which signified his fitness and endurance. He performed for about 1.5 hour and sang many songs demanded by the audience. Spectators of all ages were enjoying his performance and dancing with excitement. He is a true entertainer and knows how to keep the audience amused. All I could wish at that moment was that the night would never end but like all good things it did. But still It was one of the best moments of my life and I cannot wait to attend his next concert.
