Learning is a never ending process. One keeps learning from birth to death bed until he/she is willing to enhance their knowledge and upgrade the skills. We learn numerous things in life which are sometimes learnt by self but are mostly taught by others.
Here I will talk about a time when I learnt my favourite skill, cooking from my mother who’s an excellent cook. All our neighbours and relatives appreciate her culinary skills as she knows how to cook Indian, Chinese as well as many Continental and Italian delicacies. Last year, After completing my graduation, I was totally free at home and I was tired of resting and enjoying. One day I told my mother that I wanted to learn how to cook because from childhood to college I never tried cooking anything and I was completely unaware about even the basics of cooking or handling the kitchen. My mother never allowed me to enter the kitchen and never let me assist her because she wanted me to concentrate only on my studies. So upon insistence, she finally agreed to teach me. The very next day I assisted her in preparing breakfast. She started guiding me politely with great patience. She instructed me how to knead the dough and make dough balls. Further, we together prepared stuffing for parathas which was a boiled and mashed potato stuffing to which I added finely chopped onions, coriander leaves as well as green chilly along with crushed black pepper and salt. We stuffed that mixture into the dough balls and rolled it with a rolling pin. Finally, we put the rolled paratha in the pan and kept flipping its sides and smeared butter on both sides. We cooked it on medium flame until it became crisp and golden brown in colour. After that, I made the rest of the parathas myself although my mother stood next to me to keep an eye.
We served the parathas with curd and butter and to my surprise they were delicious! My father and mother were so happy and they applauded me for my effort. I felt great and had a feeling of accomplishment on receiving such lovely compliments. After that, I learnt various recipes from my mom and now I help her in cooking and serving the meals quite often.
