IELTS Speaking Part 2: IELTS Cue Card

Describe a difficult thing you did

You should say

– What it was?

– How did you complete it?

– Why it was difficult?

– And how you felt about doing it?

  • Well, in my life I have done some tasks which were difficult but still I have managed to complete them with my hard work and courage.
  • Here I would like to talk about driving which was a really tough job for me.
  • Actually, these days driving is a key skill one should learn especially if you are planning to go abroad.
  • So, my parents motivated me to learn driving.
  • For this, first of all, I started finding a driving school.
  • Fortunately, one of my cousins gave me a reference of the institute from where she took driving lessons.
  • I contacted them and enrolled myself on driving classes.
  • To be honest, I was very nervous on the first day but the instructor calmed me down.
  • Initially, I started driving in an open ground, which was not very difficult for me as there was no traffic.
  • However, shifting between the accelerator and brake was a difficult task.
  • The major challenge came when my instructor took me to the highway and asked me to drive.
  • I was totally messing things up because I couldn’t handle so many tasks at once such as changing gears, controlling the wheel, managing the accelerator and brakes while watching both sides through mirrors.
  • On that day, I decided to quit as I thought it’s not my cup of tea.
  • But my cousin encouraged me by sharing his own experiences.
  • After talking with her, I felt a bit relaxed and once again made my mind to continue the lessons.
  • The other challenge was traffic congestion because when you are a novice, driving a car in big cities is really a difficult task.
  • But this time my instructor told me some rules and things that I should keep in my mind, which helped me a lot.
  • I must say my instructor was really experienced and perfect at his job.
  • So, after taking classes for a month, I decided to apply for a driving licence.
  • Finally, I passed the driving test and got my license.
  • I was really happy and thanked my cousin and also the institute because without their help and guidance I couldn’t do this.
  • Overall, it was a unique experience for me as in the starting I was struggling but with time I started enjoying driving.
