IELTS Speaking Part 2: IELTS Cue Card
Describe a leisure activity near/on the sea that you want to try
– What it is
– What you need to prepare
– How easy or difficult it is
– And explain why you want to try it
Being an outgoing and adventurous person, I have tried my hands at different outdoors and exciting activities.
They break the monotony of my daily routine and give me a much-needed break from my busy work schedule.
Hence, I enjoy these activities, especially in the coastal area near my house in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
I have tried river rafting, swimming and different beach activities on the beach just 15 minutes walk from my house.
However, I really want to try and gain first-hand experience of scuba diving.
It’s a very famous and adventurous water sport activity that can be undertaken under expert supervision only.
You can reach to the depths of the underwater world and witness its magical wonders first hand.
You get to swim with different and rare aquatic and marine species native to the sea which are not found elsewhere or in other freshwater bodies.
I’ll have to practice my swimming to perfection just to be on the safer side and be mentally prepared to go embark on this journey in what seems like a different world altogether.
Firstly, I’ll have to accumulate funds to pay for the activity as the swimming apparatus has a specific cost.
It is a bit on the higher side as it contains a breathing apparatus to help me breathe artificially as I’ll be completely submerged and swim in the waters that too at a greater depth.
Having said that, it’s not as easy as it sounds, even for a trained swimmer like me.
I’ll have to hone my swimming skills a bit just to be on the safer side.
Also, swimming continuously for so much time requires a lot of stamina and vigour.
So, I am really working on those things now.
All said, these are very small prices to pay for the thrill and experience that I’ll get once I go scuba diving.
Being a great fan of the sea, the different colours and marine wildlife that I’ll get to witness are just so worth it.
I have always aspired to experience marine life in those depths first hand as I am a great fan of these distinct and seemingly out of the world marine animals.

1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of vacations on the seaside?
Well, the main disadvantage is the incidents of drowning that occur due to different reasons. Also, people can suffer heat strokes and tanning. But, in my opinion, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. We get to witness the beautiful visuals of marine life with waves and get to try different water sports.
2. Why do children like the sea better than adults?
Children like to be near water in general. This can be because water is the easiest and one of the least harmful things to play with and they find it very exciting as it feels all splashy. Plus, many children have fun playing with the sand that is usually found on the beaches.
3. What types of job positions can be found on or near the sea?
Oh, there are tons of jobs available for people on or near the sea. They can be a lifeguard, swimming instructor or indulge in fishing. Further, most of the seaside areas are great tourist destinations, so people can find employment in nearby restaurants, tourist facilities, etc. These areas also generate lots of employment opportunities in the hospitality industry.
