Well, in today’s contemporary world, it becomes very necessary to keep ourselves updated with current affairs and authentic newspapers, and news channels are an excellent medium to do so.
There are many news channels in India like NDTV, News18, etc.
I too watch these channels to know more about the latest happenings all around the globe.
Having said that, one recent news which I remember is about the big Oberoi Community Centre being built in our area in Lucknow.
The administration intends to increase tourism through it as the centre also houses exhibition spaces for the traditional arts, crafts, textiles, etc. all native to Uttar Pradesh.
A mall is also being constructed inside the premises which is planned to be the biggest in Lucknow.
I was elated when I got to know about it from NDTV and started to research more on the project.
As I am a practicing architect, a project of this stature coming up in our city is a great learning experience for me. So, I went to the local municipal office and found out more about the project.
As it is a very big and ambitious project for the people involved, it instantly became national news as well.
The venture is actually a collaboration between the current state government and the Oberoi Builders and Developers.
As it is an expensive but financially viable project, the central government of India has also funded the project to a great extent and provided resources for it as well.
The project has made the locals very interested in it as the complex is a one-of-a-kind project comprising various amenities.
The complex campus will constitute a convention and business centre, auditorium, sports complex, theatres, malls, etc.
The fact that this project will increase tourism and generate employment is the most exciting part.

1. Do people read the newspaper where you live?
Oh, definitely. People here in Lucknow are known to share a great interest in politics and current affairs. So, the interest in newspapers and news in general is implied. Moreover, students nowadays need to keep themselves updated with what is happening around in this contemporary world.
2. Do people prefer local or international news?
I think most people prefer local news. People can relate more to local news as the occurrences are happening very near to their place. Also, as a majority of people are Hindi speaking, they prefer news in Hindi or in regional languages.
3. Do you think it’s important to have a national identity?
Absolutely. It is undeniable that a sense of national identity and pride plays a significant role in the development and progress of a nation. It binds people belonging to different regions and financial backgrounds to one another.
4. How can people develop their national identity?
Um, a thorough knowledge of the actual history of a nation can contribute greatly to the development of a common identity and national pride among the people. Then organisation of different events with public involvement and gatherings can help the cause. Apart from this, every citizen should know the national anthem and hoist the national flag wherever possible.
