Describe a prize that you received
You should say
- What it was
- When you received it
- What did you do for it
- And explain how you felt about it
I have always believed in working hard and not bothering about the outcomes. But it would indeed be a lie if I said that I didn’t actually care about prizes. Here I will talk about a prize that I received many years ago.
When I was in school, I once took part in an inter-school quiz competition in grade 10th. But, just before the inter-school quiz competition we had our mid-semester exams so I couldn’t really pay much attention to the competition. Despite that, I stood second in the competition and received a silver medal and this made it all the more special.
The quiz was on distinct topics from science to maths to general knowledge. I went into the competition with no expectation of winning. I just didn’t want to embarrass myself, however, two things worked in my favor. My general knowledge has always been good because I read the newspaper daily and watch educational channels like Discovery. Moreover, I had a keen interest in reading books in the library based on General knowledge which really helped me a lot. I couldn’t specially prepare for the other topics, but a lot of the topics were similar to the topics in my school’s curriculum. So, when I was preparing for my school exams, I was also in a way preparing for the quiz. I still remember the day of the exam vividly. I woke up on the day feeling really nervous.my mother wished me good luck and comforted me by saying that I will definitely win a prize. In the first round of the quiz, I answered one question, then another and then kept answering them all correctly. At that time, I felt I was just lucky but by the third and fourth round, I felt even more confident. One of the other participants was also very good. In the last round, it was a direct competition between both of us. However, I bagged the second position by a slight margin. Immediately after the competition, I was awarded the silver medal. I remember feeling very happy with all my teachers and peers congratulating me. When I came back home, my mother and father became very happy seeing my medal. We went out for dinner that night to celebrate the victory. It was all so surreal. I still get emotional thinking of that day sometimes. I wonder if I would have practiced a little more, I would definitely have won the gold medal.
