Describe a street market in your city
– Where is it
– What can you buy there
– What is it famous for?
– How you feel about it

Well, nowadays with the advent of different websites and online shopping portals, the trend of online shopping has gained momentum.
However, there are still a lot of people who prefer offline shopping as compared to online.
Many rich people prefer to shop from malls and brand stores but youngsters and the middle-class population still prefer street markets and some online websites.
In addition, there is an option of bargaining while shopping offline which is not the case with online shopping.
While thinking of open-air markets, the one market that instantly comes to my mind is the Linking Road market in Mumbai.
It is near to my house in the Bandra suburbs of Greater Mumbai.
It stays open throughout the week.
There are a lot of shops and lots of vendors come to sell their goods in the market.
We can buy lots of interesting stuff from there. For instance, clothes, accessories, food, footwear, books, stationary. You name anything and the market has got it!
Also, the fashion collection is amazing. The market being very near to the Film city in Mumbai, it has clothes according to the latest fashion trends.
Although it is an upscale market, it is very famous for bargaining. As a result, you can get pretty good clothes at affordable prices.
Hence, people from all age groups come to shop here, especially for clothes, accessories and footwear.
Also, some delicious Indian street food is served out there. For instance, sandwich, vada pav, burger, etc.
So, people who come to shop enjoy bites of different Indian snacks which are readily available there.
As it is one of the most famous markets in Mumbai, it sometimes gets extremely crowded. Still, I visit it often and love to shop there.
I purchase most of my clothes from this market as the product quality is excellent.
Overall, the place also has a very good feel to it.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 :

Follow-up questions of Describe a street market in your city

1. Do you like shopping online or going out shopping?

Um, actually I like both. As it really depends on the deals and quality that I get. These days some online websites like Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra have good discounts. Having said that, most of the time I go out shopping as I get to check the products before I buy them which gives assurance of quality.

2. What is the difference between shopping with friends and shopping alone?

Well, when out shopping with my friends, I get lots of tips from them about the latest trends and some suggestions on colours as well. On the contrary, while shopping alone I get the necessary privacy that is sometimes required to shop stress-free.

3. What are the disadvantages of shopping in a big mall?

The first thing that comes to my mind is that you don’t get any guidance on the products. So, you have to make use of your own judgement. Also, malls can be very expensive sometimes and they don’t offer you credit which a shopkeeper will offer if he knows you very well.

4. Why do people like to buy branded products?

In my opinion, that could be because brands give an assurance on the quality of products that are offered by them. Also, they offer good sales and after-sales service and have become a status symbol.

5. In your opinion are big discounts real or just an advertisement?

I think, for advertisements. Most of the time, expired and faulty products are sold in the name of big discounts which are used just to eyewash people into buying their products.
