Although people nowadays are attracted towards the materialism of western culture, Indian people still possess a helpful nature and usually are willing to help others whenever they can. It’s good to assist others as that is why man is called a social animal. I also believe in being helpful to others whether they are strangers or known to me. Here I will talk about a time when someone from my family asked me for my support.
My sister-in-law moved to Canada in 2016 for her higher studies. As soon as she went there, she began facing problems as in India, she had studied from a school which was affiliated to Punjab School Education Board and she had studied all her majors here in Punjabi language. She was unable to understand the lessons and questions. She also found her notes quite complicated because her grammar and basics of English were not very clear or strong. She called me one day and told me about all her hardships. I felt very bad as she started crying because she was feeling unsure about whether she’d be able to continue studying there. I consoled her and offered to help her with her studies and assignments in my spare time. Every night I used to video and audio call her for half an hour to resolve all her doubts and problems that she faced with her courses. We especially worked on improving and correcting her grammar errors and in building her vocabulary. I taught her many synonyms, antonyms, formal phrases, idioms as well as to make correct use of tenses, verbs and we discussed every important aspect of grammar. I used to help her complete assignments such as essay writing and research.
Slowly and slowly she experienced improvement in her understanding and class performance. She started making fewer errors and her teachers began giving her better grades. I felt a great sense of satisfaction as I was able to help her and improve her English speaking and writing skills. She thanked me many times for the favours and also sent me some surprise gifts as a token of appreciation and love through her roommate who visited India in 2017.
I really liked helping her and I am glad that I was able to be of some assistance to her.
