Describe a time when you forgot something important

You should say

  • When it happened

  • What you forgot

  • What was the result of your forgetting

  • Why it was important

Generally, I check my bag before leaving my house to make sure that I have not forgotten to carry anything important. Despite this habit, I remember a time when I forgot my wallet at home. It was last year and I had my entrance exam in an adjoining city. The exam was at 10 a.m and I had to board the bus around 7 a.m to make sure that I reach the centre on time. Though I wake up early I was anxious due to the stress of my exam. Also, in the hustle to catch the bus I forgot to keep my wallet in my backpack. I came to know about this when I was already on the bus and the ticket collector came to me for my ticket. When I was looking for my wallet to pay for the ticket, I realised that I had forgotten to keep my wallet. I felt so embarrassed at that time and felt helpless as I was afraid that the bus conductor would ask me to leave the bus at the next stop. Luckily, there was a stranger sitting next to me and he understood my problem. He asked me to borrow money from him and to pay for the ticket. Hesitatingly, I accepted his offer and paid the conductor. Then, I started talking to him and he told me that he is going to appear for the same exam. He offered me to be in touch at the centre too and we exchanged our numbers. He even paid for my lunch that day and bought my return ticket too. I was so moved by his generous gesture and promised to pay him as soon as I will reach my home. He told me that there is no need to pay him back but I requested him and we planned to meet at a nearby café on weekend. I met him the other day and paid him the dues. After this incident, we became close friends and often meet on weekends. But still today the memory of that day haunts me as my wallet was very important for me. Had he been not there to help me I would not be able to attend my examination and this would have caused me serious damages.
