Some people think that art lessons, such as painting and drawing lessons, should be compulsory in secondary schools.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Every person has individual preferences and interests in life. Similarly, when it comes to studying, some students like science and mathematics while others have a penchant for art subjects. Therefore, I agree with the statement that sketching and painting must be part of the curriculum like other academic subjects.

Drawing and painting lessons should be emphasized upon because not all students would become scientists or doctors in the future. Some may develop an interest in art subjects and they can choose their profession as painters or artists. If these subjects would not be taught in schools, then pupils will not be able to unveil their talent in such things. This aids the students to enhance their creative self. Moreover, drawing and painting add hues to the student life and provide a break from the monotonous curriculum schedule. This further improves their overall performance in academics.

Most importantly, these days the boom of digital marketing has tremendously increased the demand for art professionals. Graphic designers, cartoonists, artists are earning a lot through these skills. Therefore, the monetary aspects of drawing and painting cannot be overlooked. So, teaching these subjects in the schools can never be a wastage of time in the present world, rather these should be encouraged among students.

In conclusion, I believe that schools must offer drawing and painting lessons to the students at the beginning of the year. However, it should entirely be the students’ choice whether to take or opt-out of these courses. Since every child has individual hobbies and interests linked to their study.
