IELTS Speaking Part 2: IELTS Cue Card

Describe an occasion when you were not allowed to use your mobile phone
– When it was
– Where it was
– Why you were not allowed to use your mobile phone
– How you felt about it

Uncontrolled usage of mobile phones is becoming a serious issue in almost every modern household.
In today’s contemporary world, mobile phones have become a kind of addiction rather than a necessity or luxury.
For this reason, there are places where mobile phones are prohibited. For instance, temples, hospitals, museums, etc.
Something similar happened to me last month.
It so happened that my cousins had come over to my place in Udaipur for holidays.
We planned on going to the different forts and sightseeing for the whole day.
At around 1 in the afternoon, we reached the beautiful city palace museum right at the heart of Udaipur.
The place exhibited historical artifacts of the Rajput era.
It also had an amazing collection of the weaponry and battle dresses of some of the most famous Rajput kings in Indian history.
However, as soon as we entered the museum, we were asked to submit our mobile phones at the baggage counter.
I readily submitted it, but out of curiosity asked the guard the reason for such a rule.
Whereby, I got to know that many people don’t keep their phones on silent or switched off resulting in disturbances for other visitors.
Also, they keep on clicking unnecessary pictures which leads to crowding and a lot of inconvenience for the management.
Although my cousins were disappointed, I was very happy as the environment was very calm and serene and I enjoyed watching different collections showcased at the museum.
Also, being a history buff, I had a great time and enjoyed the time with my cousins.
So, we applied the same at other places by switching off our mobile phones for the whole day.
