IELTS Speaking Part 2: IELTS Cue Card

Describe your favourite weather especially rainy
You should say
· What kind of weather is it?
· When does this weather usually occur?
· What do you usually do during this weather?
· Explain how this weather affects you?
· And explain why you like this type of weather?

To begin with, weather is an important part of nature and hence plays a very important role in our lives as well.
In India, we get to enjoy all kinds of weather, be it rains, summers, winters, autumn, etc.
They affect our day-to-day routine and plans a lot.
I too enjoy all kinds of weather. For instance, I go swimming in the summers and ice skating in winters. But it’s the rains that I find the most enjoyable of all these seasons.
As I stay here in Mumbai, I get to enjoy the rain a lot as it rains very heavily here in Mumbai from June to probably the first week of October
The atmosphere becomes very humid and cool, which is a great respite from the insanely hot and humid weather that Mumbai usually has before the rains commence.
It gets very hot in Mumbai in the months of April and May. Hence, the rains feel like a blessing when they start around May end or at the start of June.
Plus, they come at a time when the new academic year starts here in Mumbai. So, everything here feels new and exciting.
So, I am usually busy with preparing for the new year that I’ll be getting promoted to.
In addition, having traditional Indian snacks like Vada Pav and other street food in these rains is a delightful experience, although not that healthy.
Also, I make it a point to go out and drench myself in the first rain shower every year. It has become a kind of ritual.
It is a great stress buster for me to play while jumping in those puddles and splashing water all over my sister when we enjoy the rains.
Not to mention, the mesmerising scent of wet mud and the greenery all around feels like a cherry on the cake.
I also enjoy seeing rainbows in the afternoon sky and always look for them patiently like a small kid whenever it rains.

Follow-up questions of Describe your favourite weather especially rainy

1.Do you often pay attention to the weather forecast? (Why?/Why not?)

Um, yes, to some extent. You see, I am a travel freak and always up to visiting different places for leisure as well as work purposes. Hence, it becomes a compulsion and necessity to pay attention to the weather forecast rather than just doing it for the sake of knowledge.

2. How does the weather (or, the weather forecast) affect what activities people do?

Well, it affects our day to day activities and plans immensely. To elaborate further, if the weather forecast predicts heavy rains then people can drop off their plans to go out for work or other purposes. They’ll plan something at home itself.

3. Why do some people dislike some kinds of weather?

That actually depends on their personal preferences. Some people dislike summers as it becomes very hot and sweaty during those days. Also, some people are not able to tolerate cold, hence they dislike the winters and so on.

4. Do people wear different clothes in different types of weather (or, different seasons)?

If it’s expected to get too hot or too cold, people will alter their clothing accordingly. For example, sweaters and woolen clothes in winter and light cotton clothes in summers.

5. Does the weather have an effect on the economy?

Oh, there are many visible effects that weather has on our economy. Sometimes, offices and work get jeopardised due to flooding if it keeps on raining heavily. Moreover, tourism also gets affected. For instance, during summers people prefer to go on vacation to colder places and hill stations which boosts the tourism in these places contributing to the economy as a result.

6. In your country, are there any differences in economic activity in the different seasons?

Um, during the rains, the majority of people are compelled to work remotely from their homes due to the heavy showers that disrupt the economic activities in the city areas. In winters, offices sometimes close early in some areas due to heavy snow and also because it gets dark outside too early during the winters. However, during the summers, the opposite happens as the days get longer and we get more time to work.
