Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this situation and give your own opinion.

It is undeniable that remarkable advancements in the field of medical research and development in the last few decades have attributed to the longevity of homo sapiens. These days, better cure and medication techniques are available for all diseases that make the recoveries quickly. Although there are certain disadvantages of this situation, however, its advantages outweigh them.

There are numerous merits associated with the increased age of people. Firstly, it is observed that nowadays, the elderly are more fit physically as well as intellectually due to better medical care. So, they make a significant contribution to society in some or another way. For instance, people in old age tend to work after their retirement or look after their grandchildren at home which is not only helpful for the family but also the entire nation. Moreover, senior citizens such as physicians, scientists, artists, and teachers have a great experience of their profession which is undoubtedly paramount to the new generation.

On the other hand, increasing life expectancy results in a low mortality rate, and that ultimately leads to population explosion. Population explosion is not less than a menace that is triggering other issues such as pollution, global warming, poverty, starvation, inflation, crime, and so on. These problems become uncontrollable with the developing nations due to the unavailability of enough resources for providing basic necessities to the natives. Furthermore, many countries have increased the retirement age which eventually accelerates the unemployment rate in the nation. This further attributes to spark controversies among unemployed young adults.

In conclusion, increased life expectancy has more advantages than its disadvantages if the country has adequate resources to fulfil the basic requirements of the elderly because their contribution to society through their experience, skills, values, and tips is the real treasure for the younger generation.
