The growth of online shopping will one day lead to all shops in towns and cities closing.

Do you agree or disagree?

Needless to say, shopping trends have changed dramatically with the advent of e-commerce. People, these days, are more inclined towards online shopping as compared to buy things at shopping-centres. Yet, I do not agree with the statement that the trend of online shopping will result in the closure of shopping-stores someday.

On the one hand, there are a lot of people who enjoy shopping as a leisure activity. This is the reason that during the evenings or weekends, parking areas of the shopping complexes remain jammed. Also, in traditional ways of shopping, shoppers can actually ‘feel’ the details of the product rather than just reading on e-commerce sites when they purchase anything. Apprehension regarding the quality and authenticity of the product has no room in the case of offline shopping. Moreover, if someone has any query regarding any commodity, they can easily have a word with the shopkeepers or attendants available in the store. Thus, buyers can make an informed choice and get the value of their money.

On the flip side, online shopping is, undoubtedly, a time and cost-effective activity but it has certain drawbacks linked to it which definitely affect the customer’s experience. For instance, it is a common affair that online orders are delivered later than the expected time of delivery, therefore online organizations ignore the need and gravity of the timely delivery. Furthermore, it is seen that the cosmetics and consumables which are about to expire are sold at heavy discounts which is a complete eyewash. Also, returning and exchanging the unsatisfactory orders in e-shopping is really a ‘task’. So, while taking all these points into consideration, I do not think that the trend of in-store shopping will ever become obsolete.

Although online shopping is at an upswing these days, the demerits associated with the same can not be ignored. Therefore, that day is at bay when all the shops will close due to the proliferation of e-shopping.
