Unit-III
Pericyclic Reactions I : (05 Lectures)
Electrocyclic Reactions: Woodward and Hoffmann rules, correlation diagram for cyclobutene = butadiene interconversion, Frontier orbital theory. Examples of 4, 6 and 8 electron systems, stereochemical modes.
Cycloaddition Reactions : Woodward and Hoffmann rules, Frontier Molecular orbital theory for Dieis-Alder reaction.
Unit-IV
Pericyclic Reactions II: (05 Lectures)
(4+2) and (2+2) cycloadditions, exo and endo isomers, Examples Bicyclo (2, 2, 1) heptane and Bicyclo (2, 2, 2,) octane systems. Intramolecular Diels Alder reaction.
Sigmatropic Rearrangements: Woodward and Hoffmann rules, Frontier Molecular orbital for 1, 3; 1, 5 and 1, 7 shifts. Examples including vitamin D2 formation from 7-dehydro cholesterol (Provitamin D3).
