Sports play a very crucial role in our lives.
They lead to an all-around development in a person’s physical and mental stamina.
A plethora of sports are played in India, both indoors and outdoors.
There is a different kind of thrill and excitement associated with watching an outdoor sport live in a stadium.
Although I haven’t watched many games in stadiums, I have the experience of watching a live football match in the Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune where I reside.
As it is one of the biggest and most popular stadiums in Pune, the experience was remarkable and awesome.
As soon as we reached there, we were amazed at the infrastructure of the complex, it consisted of the stadium, indoor sports arena, library and a water sports stadium as well.
Anyway, there was an inter-city football tournament going on and on that particular day the match was between Mumbai and Pune.
There was a huge crowd at the venue as it was a home match with people being extra high on excitement and hysteria.
This was about 6 months ago when I had taken a short break of a month from work.
So, being a great fan of soccer, I instantly said yes when a friend invited me for the match.
He was one of the players in the Pune team.
So, he got me tickets for the pavilion stands which gave me a clear and more comfortable view of the entire match.
The crowd went hysterical as soon as the match started.
The Pune team initially lagged in scoring goals, but eventually bounced back in the second half to beat the Mumbai team by 4 goals.
As it was a home match, the crowd started celebrating fanatically as soon as the final goal was made.
I was initially stunned due to the noise and commotion, but later on realised that Pune had actually won.
Also, for an ardent football fan like me, this match was extra special as it was the first football match that I got to watch live.
Not to mention, my favourite team winning the match made this experience more special and memorable for me.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 :

Follow-up questions of Describe a live sports match that you have watched

1. Do you prefer to watch live sports or watch it on TV?

I prefer the latter. Nowadays, there are so many advancements being made in the technology used in television sets that there is not much difference left in a match live and on TV. Also, I don’t like crowds. Hence, I prefer to watch the majority of matches in the comfort of my home.

2. Why do some people like to watch live sports?

I think it’s because of the crowd and the excitement that is there in live matches. People get to spend quality life with their loved ones breaking the monotony of their daily routine. Some people also hope to meet their favourite sportsperson and get an autograph.

3. What kind of sports do Indian people like to watch?

The most popular one is cricket. People also love watching tennis, hockey and football. There are many other sports as well but cricket and football have a great fan following.

4. Do you think competition is good for students?

Absolutely, competition forces people to strive harder to achieve their goals. It helps them to make plans and learn to execute them accordingly. Also, I think in today’s world, there’s no slowing down, so students should learn to handle competitions and situations ahead of time. Having said that, I do feel that competition will benefit students only if it’s healthy and in good spirit.
