IELTS Speaking Part 2: IELTS Cue Card

Describe a time when you were in trouble.
You should say:
– what it was
– how you got into it
– how you handled it
– explain how you felt about it

Well, facing troubles and trials is a part and parcel of life in today’s world.
However, in the end, how we handle these situations is what matters the most.
It becomes imperative to stay optimistic and hopeful, no matter what life throws in our way.
Similarly, I too keep getting into trouble for various reasons, sometimes work and sometimes academics.
But one incident, where I felt that I made a big blunder and had got stuck, was during my final semester graduation exams.
I vividly remember that I was preparing my final year thesis on the topic of Digital Banking in today’s era.
It so happened that after I finished composing the whole 200-page book, on the night before the submission my laptop switched off automatically as I had forgotten to charge it.
To my horror, the changes that I had done so painstakingly sitting the whole day, had all vanished.
I tried refreshing the software but still couldn’t find the required file anywhere.
So. I picked up my phone and called up my elder sister who happens to be a Computer Engineer and has excellent knowledge of this kind of stuff.
First, she laughed at me for my folly and then teased me a lot for it.
Then she asked me to go to the C drive, into the folder of the software and look for autosaved files.
Hearing this, I too laughed at myself as I was already aware of this, but it didn’t occur to me due to the stress and tension of losing my day’s work and the pending submission.
I felt very silly about the whole thing and realised that it is always necessary to stay alert in every situation.
It is also necessary to learn how to handle a situation calmly and intelligently as getting panicked unnecessarily does no good, whatever the situation be.
