I have been very fond of reading since childhood and I go through enlightening articles and editorials quite often. Here I will talk about a time when I read a health-related article online.

Last week, I got curious about exploring more facts and details related to COVID-19 which is also known as Coronavirus. I finally came across a relevant article on the World Health Organisation’s official website. The title of the article was “Coronavirus explained”. I began reading it at midnight as the caption itself seemed intriguing. I read that COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by ‘Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2’.

It was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and has resulted in a pandemic that is still prevalent and spreading its tentacles all over the world. It was mentioned in the article that there are around 20.6 million active cases worldwide with roughly 24 lakh cases in India. Moreover, 749,000 people have died so far due to it and people who have been recovered are 12.8 million. It caused widespread havoc in France, U.S.A and China. Further, I learnt that people with weak immunity such as the elderly, young children or people suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes are more vulnerable to fall prey to this contagious disease.

I further read that it has certain symptoms such as fever, dry cough, shortness of breath, loss of sense of smell and fatigue however in some cases it may be asymptomatic. It can lead to several severe complications such as respiratory distress, pneumonia and kidney failure. The article stated that usually when once a person is infected with this virus, the signs and symptoms take 2-14 days to manifest. It can be detected by CT scan or RT-PCR testing. People who get infected must be quarantined and taken care of by health professionals with great precautions as it is communicable.

At the end it was written that one can prevent this deadly disease by maintaining social distance, wearing masks, especially when going out, avoiding crowded places and using hand sanitizers. It was advised in the article to strengthen immunity by increasing Vitamin C intake, exercise at home and consuming turmeric milk. Also, people should cover their face and nose while sneezing or coughing to prevent droplet infection.

It seemed quite an illuminating write-up which gave me enough insight that I sought. I believe anyone who would or have read this report would indeed be enlightened because it contained all the details about the causes, symptoms, effects as well as remedies for COVID-19.
