  • When you saw it
  • Where you saw it
  • Explain why it is interesting

I have immense reverence in my heart for animals as I find them fascinating. I love different kinds of animals such as elephants, horses, dogs and deers but here I will talk about an animal which I recently found quite interesting.

Its name is Alpaca. It is a species of South American camelid descended from the vicuna. It looks like a short and woolly camel. It is often confused with Llama which is another South American camelid however alpacas are often smaller than the llamas. Alpacas have a height of 81-99 cms. They weigh between 40-80 kgs. I saw it for the first time in a video posted by PETA (People for the ethical treatment of animals) on its Instagram handle.

It literally looks so cute and adorable. Also my favourite celebrity, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has pet alpacas at his farmhouse in New York. He keeps posting their videos on his Facebook and Instagram account. They are friendly and pleasant creatures and are safe to be around. They do not have any sharp teeth, horns or hooves. They are intelligent and gentle animals with a cute face. Moreover, they make excellent pets and are quite useful. Their wool is extremely warm, soft and has a high insulating value. They love eating pasture grass, carrots, apples, broccoli stalks and turnips. They respond very well to treats and are affectionate towards their masters. Alpacas communicate through body language. The most common is spitting when they are in distress, fearful, or mean to show dominance. For all these interesting qualities, I would love to see and pet an alpaca in real one day.

Vocabulary:

reverence: a feeling of admiration

fascinating: extremely interesting

descended: come low

affectionate: a feeling of love

dominance: quality of best among other things
