Describe something or someone that made a lot of noise.

You should say

  • Who or what made the noise?
  • What was the noise like?
  • What did you do when you heard the noise?
  • And how did you feel about it?

Well, it’s very difficult for me to bear any noise pollution as I usually get a headache if I am exposed to a constant source of noise. Here I will talk about a time when I had to face a lot of inconvenience due to a lot of noise. Actually it was back in March 2015 when I had my final senior secondary examinations. I was preparing for my English exam which was the firstmost one.

People in our community had been planning for a long time to organise a night vigil prayer and it had been fixed for that day, as unanimously decided by all the people living in our neighbourhood. It is called ‘jagrata’ which is a Hindu ritual when people stay awake the whole night singing in honour of a particular deity. Devotees worship gods and goddesses throughout the night by singing Holy hymns and devotional songs in their praise and some of them begin dancing too.

The tent was erected beside our house in the community garden and preparations began in the afternoon. The celebration initiated at 7pm in the evening and holy hymns could be heard all over the neighbourhood through loudspeakers. There was a great hustle and bustle around our house. As our place is quite near the garden, we were the most affected by the loudly played devotional songs. Although a couple more of my friends in the neighbourhood also had the same exam the next day, I was however, finding it extremely hard to revise and learn my lessons.

I told my parents that I was not being able to study at all because of the noise made by people gathered outside and also because of the loudspeakers but they said that I should have finished studying by evening. They said that I must go to bed early and get up at 5 am and revise the pending syllabus in the early morning. So I also with my parents went to pay obeisance to the prayer and met some of my classmates there. We ate the community meal together and I discussed the situation with them. One of my friends named Navpreet suggested that I should come for a sleepover to their place as due to the noise I was not going to be able to sleep early anyway. So she advised me to come to her place and study with her because their house was a block away from ours as well as from the community garden. I found the suggestion quite useful and discussed it with my mother. My mother agreed and allowed me to go along with her instantly. We started studying and revising the important questions at 8:30pm and went to bed at 12:30pm. We got up again at 6 am in the morning and reviewed some leftover lessons for an hour over bed tea. At 7, I left for my home, got ready, had some breakfast and left for school. Fortunately, my exam went well and I was feeling grateful to my friend for giving me such a useful suggestion.

So this was a time when I struggled because of noise.
