Technological innovations have always paved a two-way road for societal interactions. Some get along and accept the changes, while others feel that the old methods were better. In my opinion, people have become more active on social media, raising issues that were once not cared about, however, the personal touch has somewhere been lost.
Every society has its own issues to deal with. With the advent of technology, the Internet especially has made it possible to communicate these concerns, not only faster but also to a larger audience. The influence has been so massive in some cases, that even some laws had to be changed. The acceptance of the queer community in government jobs and same-sex marriage, for example, has been legalized due to social media interactions. Applications like Instagram and Facebook have brought people together for common causes. Another positive effect is that corruption has taken a toll. It has become so easy to make a video viral and expose corrupt officers using smartphone recordings. In spite of these positive outcomes, however, the other side of the coin cannot be neglected either.
In terms of physical interactions, people have begun choosing an escapade. Fake media attention is being considered as the means of liking and it is no longer necessary to go and meet someone. Also, simple emojis have replaced hugs and kisses, thereby depriving real emotions to be delivered personally. This, on the whole, has led to lowered self esteems and a huge amount of depression. Psychologists around the world agree that the decade has seen the highest number of divorces as well as depression-related cases and suicides too.
Thus, to conclude, it is evident that some positive aspects have taken place on the societal level due to availability of advances in technology, but, on an individual level, it has resulted in decreased personal links.
