With the rise of e-books comes the decline of paper books. Some people see this as a good step forward while others do not. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this trend?

With the advent of the electronic age, the practice of reading books online has increasingly become popular among so many people. On the other hand, many people still have the same affection for paper-based books. This essay discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the increasing trend of reading e-books.

There are several merits associated with the electronic-books. Firstly, e-books have pulled out the need of carrying along paper books wherever a person goes. In fact, one can have access to thousands of e-books at one time that’s too at a minimal cost. The next best part of reading books online is that it is very easy to find the right book to read simply by searching the type of content one wants to read within fractions of a second. Apart from this, it is usual that a library and a bookshop may not contain all the books however, the internet has every book available on it. Most importantly, e-books are environment-friendly since hundreds of trees are cut down on a daily basis for making paper.

On the other hand, when it comes to the disadvantages of e-books, it is difficult to read a book for a longer time on the internet because it puts a strain on the eyes and causes problems like headache and hypertension. Secondly, it is impossible to develop the same connection with e-books as that of traditional books because one cannot touch and feel the papers of the book. Especially, elder people especially do not like reading books online.

In conclusion, I believe that the rising trend of e-books has more merits than its demerits. Instant availability and convenience to read anywhere are the two significant features of e-books.
