Nowadays online education has become popular as more institutes and companies are offering courses online. However, many people prefer the traditional, classroom training or study.

Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both methods

Education is a chief defence of every nation. It dispels the darkness of ignorance and enlightens one’s mind. In the contemporary era, many people prefer online courses whereas others opt for conventional and formal education. Pros and cons of both the methods will be discussed in the upcoming stanzas.

On the one hand, classes provided through the world wide web are very convenient to attend as one can study online within his/her comfort zone and can also pursue education from overseas institutes. For instance, during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, all the renowned universities and institutions are providing classes through internet video conferencing or their websites due to which students worldwide are easily continuing their studies. Moreover, in this way, not only students have the freedom to juggle their career and education but it also reduces transportation costs. However, on the other hand, it may create a sense of seclusion because neither students go to campus to interact with peers nor make many friends. Also, students have to be responsible for their own learning in this method. In online study or training, learners enjoy more freedom due to which they procrastinate more than they do while attending school.

On the flip side, the classroom environment provides the “human touch” which is usually missing in online classes that aids level based and active learning. The classroom has a better aura for study which is away from distractions or disturbances which exist while one studies at home or work. Practicals can only be performed when one attends school, such as for studying chemistry, students have to do various experiments in the laboratory which are not possible online. Moreover, group interactions enhance learning as well as social skills. On the contrary, pupils need to find time especially for attending the school which sometimes may be hard to schedule, especially for the working students. In addition, shy students feel hesitant to approach teachers for clarifying their doubts. Furthermore, travel time and cost increase and sometimes students are required to buy compulsory books.

In summary, both mediums of obtaining knowledge are useful albeit having some drawbacks. Scholars can opt for either one according to their suitability. If one’s keen enough to grasp information, the shortcomings can be overlooked.
