The table below gives information on consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002.

The tabular chart illustrates the proportion of national expenditure in Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey on three kinds of consumer goods in 2003. Units are measured in percentage.

Overall, food, drinks and tobacco was the category on which all the countries spent the most, which was three times than on the other types of goods. Lowest spending was made on leisure and education by all the 5 nations. The expenditure of Turkey was generally higher in all the categories except for clothing and footwear.

At a fleeting glance, it is vivid that Turkey spent the highest for eatables, beverages and tobacco at 32.14% which was closely followed by Ireland with 28.91%. Spain and Italy spent 18.80 % and 16.36 % on the same and the least expenditure was made by Sweden with 15.77%. Probing further, the lowest money was expended on entertainment and literacy in all the five countries which was below 5%. Turkey spent the most on it with 4.35% and the least which was 1.98% was outlaid by Spain.

In terms of clothes and shoes, consumer spendings were between 9% in Italy and 5.40% in Sweden. The nation expenditure for this category for the remaining nations averaged around 6.5%.
