Weddings are more expensive in many countries comparison present and past.

What is the reason behind this?

Is this a positive or negative development?

Marriages are the most important aspect in any companionship, and each ceremony has its own budget requirements: which have increased tremendously since the olden times. This shift in perspective of having special arrangements in the form of destination weddings has negatively impacted our society as a whole. The reasons include mark of social status and small families with habits of lavish lifestyles cannot help but spend a lot.

Societal Statures have been portraying as a white elephant since centuries. Weddings and ceremonies have proven to be the best times to bring forth the egoistic push to the persona of an individual. This, however, does put a lot of unnecessary pressure on society as a whole. Lots of others who cannot afford the similar showcases, can come under debt even; in order to avoid the social stigma of not being up to the par. In India especially, for the marriages of daughters, the personal loans have increased by approximately 45 per cent. As a consequence, if non-repayment occurs, many lives are lost to suicide as no other resorts are found by the loan repayors.

Living standards also play a pivotal role in increasing the costs of ceremonial celebrations. From childhood, if the lifestyle is quite lavish, the child when grown-up would rarely settle for a simple wedding. Moreover, these days, the majority of the people earn good, and also due to rarity of time, destination weddings are becoming a fab amongst the generation. Pre-wedding shoots are selling like hotcakes and almost every household, especially in India again, has to have a ring ceremony and a reception after the main wedding ceremony. The average costs range from twenty lac Indian rupees to three crore rupees easily. This money is nothing but a wastage in the end.

Thus, to conclude, maintaining a standard in the society and having a lavish lifestyle have forced the weddings to be expensive affairs and thus forcing many to get into debts or simply wasting huge amounts unnecessarily, thus bringing a negative impact on the society as a whole.
