You borrowed some books from the school or college library

by Ielts Team

You borrowed some books from the school or college library. Unfortunately, you have to go away to visit a sick relative and cannot return the books in time.

Write a letter to the library, explain what has happened and tell them what you want to do about it.

Dear Sir,

My name is XYZ and I am a member of scholastic readers’ school’s club and thereby I frequently get different books issued to carry them home for the purpose of reading. I am writing to inform you that I will not be able to return the books on the destined time that I borrowed last week due to the turn of events.

As you already know that I always return the books that I borrow on the promised day. I got a Biology and a storybook issued last Wednesday which I was bound to return on the coming Wednesday. However, I will not be able to come to school that day because my maternal uncle was admitted to the hospital yesterday due to severe jaundice, so we are going to Delhi tomorrow in the morning.

We will be staying in Delhi for 3 days to look after him as he is all by himself there because his family is in the United States. I am accompanying my mother to assist her in taking care of my uncle. Therefore, I will return back home by Friday evening. For this reason, I will be able to return the taken books on Saturday.

I hope you will understand my situation considering my previous record as I have always rendered the books on time. Neither I have lost nor have I damaged any taken book ever. I always return the books without delay in pristine condition for which you have always appreciated me.

Looking for your cooperation and understanding in this matter.

Yours faithfully,

XYZ
